I went for a truly indulgent Christmas treat today – afternoon tea at Fortnum and Mason. It was absolutely perfect – sumptuous food, amazing surroundings (complete with live pianist) and lovely company – Andy and our mums. I highly recommend it for a bit of a splurge – the options ranged from £40/head for afternoon tea, to £45/head for high tea, complete with a substantial hot option. We went for a bit of sharing all round – we ordered two afternoon teas, a high tea with Welsh rarebit, and an additional high tea with Ham Hock scotch egg, which I have to say was the highlight. All options come with a savoury course, followed by scones and a beautiful selection of patisserie bits and cakes. If you can squeeze any more in (we couldn’t) you can then choose cakes from the carriage (ooh, ain’t we posh.) For those who don’t like tea, like my own madres, you can order a coffee or soft drink no problem.
The best bit? You get to take your jams home with you! We’ve now got a cupboard stocked full with gorgeous jars of F + M’s finest.
You can book for afternoon tea at Fortnum and Mason’s Jubilee tea salon on Toptable here.
